Engineering Technician

Company Background:

United Dynamics is a small business-certified Hub Zone located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. United Dynamics started in 1993 by reverse engineering aerospace parts to help the USG with obsolete parts. This company has an engineering staff capable of designing and reverse engineering numerous types of aerospace parts and solutions. United Dynamics is approved for manufacturing over 168 National Stock Numbers (NSNs). This includes in-house machining capabilities, parts assembly, and testing. United Dynamics has an MRO shop and is approved to overhaul over 53 National Stock Numbers (NSNs). This company manufactures and overhauls aerospace parts for numerous aircraft, including: KC-135, B-52, B1, B2, E3, A-10, F-15, F-16, KC-46, and C-130. United Dynamics history of sales is specifically Department of Defense (DOD) sales.

Position Summary:

In this Engineering Technician role, you will primarily serve as the engineering representative to the United Dynamics capture team, aiding in bidding on technical solicitations and sales opportunities. Alternatively, you will also be responsible for providing technical support to the engineering team by assisting with project tasks, data collection, drawing revisions, and documentation.

This position involves safety-sensitive job tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee or others, including but not limited to the operation of a motor vehicle, other vehicle, equipment, machinery, or power tools. Repairing, maintaining, or monitoring the performance or operation of any equipment, machinery, or manufacturing process, the malfunction or disruption of which could result in injury or property damage. As set out more fully in the Drug and Alcohol Policy, employees in this position are subject to discipline up to and including termination of employment in the event of a positive drug test for marijuana components or metabolites, regardless of whether such employee has a valid Oklahoma medical marijuana license.

Requires a willingness to work outside of regular business hours to meet deadlines, if necessary.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assess solicitations and sales opportunities as the engineering technical representative.
  • Interpret engineering technical documentation to create Bills of Materials (BOMs) for solicitations and sales
    opportunities.
  • Compile hour estimates for the UDI engineering and production facilities (Machine Shop, Assembly, and MRO departments) for solicitations and sales opportunities.
  • Interpret and execute in UDI’s ERP system (Costpoint) that engineering accesses.
  • Identify, analyze, and solve obsolescence issues. Evaluate alternate and substitute parts in support of the UDI production lines, solicitations and sales opportunities.
  • Interpret engineering technical documents, including but not limited to: drawings, release notices, work instructions, acceptance test procedures/reports, and qualification test procedures/reports.
  • Revise and redline engineering technical documentation (usually engineering drawings, work instructions, and acceptance test procedures) utilizing UDI’s engineering Quality Management System processes and work instructions.
  • Identify, analyze, and solve obsolescence issues. Evaluate alternate and substitute parts in support of the UDI production lines.
  • Support new engineering design projects through the prototype manufacturing and testing phases.
  • Diagnose the origin of breakdowns, including human error, and troubleshoot problems in the Machine Shop, Assembly, and MRO departments.
  • Identify continuous improvement projects and present them to management.
  • Support problem resolution throughout the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN.
  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Machine Shop and Assembly processes.
  • Experience interpreting engineering technical documentation.
  • Experience with a configuration management tool for managing engineering data and documentation.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently. An ability to lead is desired.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on process and quality.

Experience Level:

  • Entry level to two years of experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing, systems, industrial, or mechanical/electrical engineering, or equivalent, or five plus years of experience in Engineering/Manufacturing.
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electrical design in aerospace or a similar industry.
  • Experience with CAD and/or PCB software.
  • Proficiency in Machine Shop and Assembly processes.
